A habit or an addiction could be viewed as a mechanism of self soothing or self medicating to deal with emotions and thoughts that overwhelm and a person cannot cope with. Are you ready to get your life back on track? The most important thing to begin your change, is that you are doing this for yourself.
What is your desire level to quit?
The main ingredient to being successful is your desire level to change and quit. The desire is your want to change, not the emotional triggers that have kept you using or in that habit pattern of behaviour and thinking. Ask yourself; ‘Where do I sit on the desire scale to quit my habit or addiction?’ Rate it on a 1 – 10 scale. One being the least and 10 being the most desire you have to quit? When rating yourself, know that a desire level over a 7 is a good indication that you are ready to quit. If you rated under a 7 ask yourself:
“What is my reason to keep doing this to myself?”
“How does that make me feel?”
“Am I ready to deal with these feelings?”
If you are not ready to quit and would like help to get you to a point you are ready, your program can include pre-quit preparation sessions.
Whether you view yourself having a habit or an addiction, we work together to create a strategy that is individually tailored to you. It takes into consideration the emotions behind any behaviour and thought patterns that contribute to your pattern of use.
The length and timing of your sessions takes in consideration:
- Safety and resourcing
- Resolving underlying emotional issues.
- The time frame of the brain to rewire new behaviour patterns.
- Enhancing associated positive emotional benefits of living life free.
The aim is mastery of yourself – Taking Charge of Your Own Change
The number of sessions required is dependant on the type of habit and or addiction. The following is a guide only.
– E.g. General Habits 3-4 sessions
– Smoking: Programs vary from 1 – 6 sessions depending on desire to quit & other issues.
– Alcohol: 6 – 12 sessions
